Giving Back: Speed Mentoring with NABS

For regular readers of this blog, you will know that I’m a big advocate of mentoring. I believe that it is important to give back. One of the best ways you can give back is by sharing your wisdom with others, who may require a little bit of guidance, to help them on their way.

In a couple of weeks, I will be joining more than 30 other marketing and communications professionals to meet with future leaders of the industry as part of the National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) 2012 Speed Mentoring Event.

I was honoured to be invited by Katie Byrne to be a part of a great event featuring such a distinguished group of professionals.

I am also excited to have the opportunity to meet with some up-and-comers in the industry. I’m always energized when I meet with people who have fresh ideas.

I must admit that I had never heard of the NABS until Katie contacted me via LinkedIn earlier this year – that’s what happens when you come from a non-traditional sector like sports (I guess).

For those of you unfamiliar with NABS, it is the only charitable organization in Canada that provides assistance to advertising, media and related industry professionals, who may need help due to illness, injury, unemployment or financial difficulties.

That’s a pretty cool concept if you ask me.

But back to the Speed Mentoring event coming up on March 27. The goal of the evening is to provide an environment for the future leaders – the mentees – to get some advice and guidance from seasoned mentors.

While I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself seasoned, there is an impressive list of mentors who will be gracing this event, making it must-attend in my opinion. I have spent a lot of time in the past couple of years sharing my experiences and advice with young professionals, so hopefully I can help make a difference for a few more people through this event.

Register now to secure your ticket to this great event. It will be held on Tuesday, March 27 at BerBer Lounge Toronto.
